Time to get out your calendar and mark it up! December is full of holiday special events at Live Oak.
It all starts Saturday, Dec. 6 with the Jingle Jangle Jam from 10:00 am-2:00 pm: drop the kids off for lunch, holiday crafting, and games, while parents shop, wrap presents, or heck, take a holiday nap! Children 4-12 are welcome, but RSVPs to DLFD@LiveOakUU.org are required.
On Sunday, December 7, right after the worship service with Hanging of the Greens. Be sure to wear your favorite “ugly sweater” (or other holiday casual attire) – there will be prizes! Lunch will be provided, and those with little ones are encouraged to include them – this is one of the ways they begin to learn about working together as a community.
On Thursday, Dec. 11, at 6:30 pm, we will gather in the sanctuary for the annual “Blue Christmas Vespers” service. This service is for anyone who is having a challenging time this December – perhaps you’re in grief from loss, or worried about the future. Or maybe you’re just “not feeling it,” this year. The service has readings, music, and a time for anyone who wishes to, to share some of what they are carrying.
Saturday, Dec. 13th is the day so many have been waiting for – our Selfies with Santa festival! Join us from 10-2, as Santa Claus joins us to talk to kids and pose for pictures. Bring your camera or phone! There will be helpers to help with the photos, so parents/grandparents/etc can be in the picture, too. We’ll have activities for the kids while they wait, and some fun for the grownups, too, with a silent auction and bake sale. (We’d love your donations to the bake sale, too, individually wrapped please.) Got any neighbors or friends with kids? Bring them, too!
Sunday morning, Dec. 14, it’s No-Rehearsal Pageant Time for the service at 11:00 am – all ages! This will be followed by our December congregational meeting.
Celebrate the return of the light with the Winter Solstice Labyrinth Walk on Dec. 21 at 5:30 pm.
Christmas Eve, bring your entire family to church at 6:00 for the Candlelight Christmas Eve service. Filled with familar carols, stories, and performances, it’s the perfect way to begin your Christmas holiday.
And as the year draws to a close, join us at 8 pm on Dec. 31 for the New Year’s Eve Labyrinth Walk.
