I am away this week, gone back to seminary for a class that is part of the Doctor of Ministry program I am in. A Doctor of Ministry degree, or D.Min. (yes, we love to make “demon” jokes) is one way that ministers can continue receive education that will help us in what we do.
I think that being a lifelong learned is part of a being a Unitarian Universalist, whether one is a religious professional or not. One of the core tenets for us is an understanding that, as James Luther Adams wrote, “Revelation is continuous.” We know that individuals and humanity as a whole are never “done.” There is always something new to learn, new ideas to explore.
If you are interested in leadership, here or in your non-church life, the Unitarian Universalist Association has a “Leader Lab” with online trainings on many different topics. Explore it here.
If you’re looking for something more personal, there is a non-UU program in Houston (with online workshops also offered) that I can recommend called Faithwalking. The head of the program, Ken Shuman, has conducted workshops at Live Oak. (Be aware that you will probably have to use your “theological translator” as the program’s main audience are Christian.)
Where do you find “continuing education” – professionally or personally?
