Well, here it is, only May and we’re already beating heat records for our area. I imagine I’m not the only one looking ahead at the summer with a bit of dismay at what will probably be a scorcher.
But as I keep learning over and over, fighting with reality is a fool’s errand. Reality wins 100% of the time. So, within this reality, how are we going to live and even thrive through the next 3 months?
We’ll be kicking off the summer months on Sunday, June 1, with the service “An Old-Fashioned Summer” followed by some summer treats and games. Can you bring an ice-cream maker or snow cone machine? If so, let Chris Jarman know at dlfd@liveoakuu.org.
One of the things I think most central Texans come to rely on in the sweltering months are cool foods that don’t require an oven. I’d like to put together a little recipe book of our favorite so if you have a winner you’re willing to share, please send that recipe to minister@liveoakuu.org.
Do you have any old-fashioned games you can provide and teach others? Jacks? Sack races? Let either Chris or me know!
